BusinessMed® Monopolar Forceps & Scissors are insulated instruments that act as the active electrode: current leaves at the exposed tips or blades and passes through the patient to a return electrode. The forceps hold tissue and coagulate what they hold; the scissors cut and coagulate in one instrument. The range covers eleven forceps and three scissors patterns.

Plastic and general surgery forceps
Insulated arms with exposed tips on familiar forceps patterns: the Adson, Gillies, McIndoe, Remington Hobb, Wilson Hey and Richie forceps seal bleeding points in skin and soft tissue held in the tips.
Fine and narrow forceps
The Gerald keeps the point in view with a narrow jaw; the monopolar jeweller forceps give pinpoint coagulation in fine plastic surgery and microsurgery.
Deep-field and vessel forceps
The bayonet monopolar forceps coagulate in deep or confined fields where a straight forceps and the hand would block the view; the artery monopolar forceps hold and seal a small bleeding vessel; the dissecting monopolar forceps separate planes and seal as they go.
Monopolar scissors
Insulation covers body and handles and the blades stay exposed, so the scissors cut and coagulate: Metzenbaum monopolar scissors for delicate planes, dressing monopolar scissors and the Turner Warwick monopolar scissor.
How to choose monopolar instruments
- Grasp or cut. Monopolar diathermy forceps hold and coagulate; monopolar scissors cut and coagulate.
- Field. Bayonet and long sizes for deep fields; Gerald and jeweller tips for fine work; Adson, Gillies and McIndoe for skin and soft tissue.
- Options. Most forceps are offered in several lengths, tip sizes and connector types on the product page — match the connector to the generator.

What is monopolar cautery used for?
Sealing small bleeding points in skin, flaps and soft tissue in plastic and general surgery, coagulating held vessels, dissecting planes while sealing small vessels, and cutting soft tissue with coagulation along the cut.
