Types of titanium-coated periodontal instruments

Titanium curettes

Titanium scaler and probe

The titanium anterior sickle scaler is a small hand scaler for supragingival calculus on incisors and canines; the titanium UNC perio probe is marked every millimeter with colored bands.

Bionik handle sets

The Bionik small set and the complete Bionik handle set — contents on their product pages.

How to choose titanium scalers and curettes

  • Same patterns as steel. Choose the Langer, Gracey or Columbia blade exactly as for the plain steel versions in Universal Dental Curettes and Gracey Curettes; the coating is the difference.
  • Universal or area-specific. Langer and Columbia universal curettes cut with both edges; the Gracey with one.
  • Scaler or probe. The anterior scaler for supragingival calculus at the front of the mouth; the perioprobe for UNC charting.

What are titanium-coated periodontal instruments used for?

Scaling and root planing on anterior and posterior teeth, scaling exposed root surfaces during periodontal surgery, supragingival scaling on incisors and canines, and periodontal charting with a UNC scale.
