Bipolar Cables

BusinessMed® Bipolar Cables carry the generator output to a bipolar forceps; the two tips then close the circuit through the tissue between them. Each cable has two ends to match: the forceps end is a European flat plug or a USA 2-pin fitting, and the generator end is a banana plug, an Erbe-type, a Martin-type or a pin-spaced connector.

Types of bipolar cables

European flat plug cables

For forceps with the European fitting: the Erbe-type, Martin-type and pin-spaced cables, and a flat plug to banana plug adapter.

USA 2-pin cables

For forceps with the American fitting — the fitting offered on many BusinessMed bipolar forceps: the Erbe-type, Martin-type, pin-spaced and angled banana plug cables.

How to choose a bipolar cord

  • Forceps end. European flat plug or USA 2-pin, to match the fitting on your bipolar forceps.
  • Generator end. Banana, Erbe-type, Martin-type or pin-spaced, to match the generator's bipolar socket.
  • Pin distance. On pin-spaced connectors the center-to-center spacing of the two pins must match the generator sockets; each page states its pin distance.
  • Spare cord. A second cable keeps one ready for the same forceps and generator pair.

What are bipolar cables used for?

Bipolar electrosurgery setups: powering bipolar forceps for small-vessel coagulation, linking European-fitting or American-fitting forceps to the generator in the room, and keeping a mixed forceps stock running from one generator — the link in every bipolar electrosurgical and bipolar electrocautery setup. Forceps are in Bipolar Forceps.
