Microsurgery Instruments
BusinessMed® Microsurgery Instruments are fine instruments for work under the operating microscope: spring and round-handle micro needle holders with diamond-dust jaws for micro sutures, micro scissors, jewelers forceps and vessel dilators that prepare vessel ends for microvascular anastomosis, and micro vessel clamps, bulldog clamps and micro mosquito forceps that hold small arteries and veins.

Suturing: micro needle holders
Spring-handle and round-handle micro needle holders open by themselves when finger pressure is released, and a round handle is rolled between the fingers to turn the needle. Diamond dust or fine carbide particles on the jaws grip micro needles and stop them rotating. The range has the Castroviejo needle holder with a diamond-surface jaw, the Castroviejo-Ryder, the Barraquer and Jacobson micro needle holders with round handles, the double-action micro needle holder and a lightweight micro vascular needle holder with tungsten carbide jaws. See Plastic Surgery Needle Holders.
Cutting: micro scissors
Castroviejo scissors are spring scissors whose handle leaves reopen the blades after each squeeze; round handles, as on the Blondeel scissors, roll between the fingertips to turn the blades without moving the wrist. Micro scissors pair short fine blades with a long body for magnified work. Westcott stitch and tenotomy scissors are also here. See Plastic Surgery Scissors.
Grasping and dilating: micro forceps
Jewelers forceps are needle-fine precision forceps; the micro Adson forceps add 1x2 teeth, and the Pierse forceps have a small hole in the tip. A vessel dilator is a modified jeweler's forceps with slender, polished, parallel tips: the closed tips go into the vessel end and are allowed to separate, dilating the lumen before the anastomosis. Dilators come with straight, angled or curved tips of 0.2 or 0.3 mm and in short and long bodies, such as the curved vessel dilator. See Plastic Surgery Thumb Forceps.
Clamping small vessels
Micro vessel clamps occlude small arteries and veins for a time during the anastomosis; the double version holds two vessel ends as an approximator. They are placed with the microsurgical clamp applying forceps. The cross-action DeBakey bulldog clamp opens when the handles are squeezed and closes on release. Halsted, Hartmann and Jacobson micro mosquito forceps clamp small vessels in confined and microsurgical fields. See Ring Forceps & Clamps.
Eye surgery
The Barraquer wire eyelid speculum, a spring-wire frame with open blades, holds the lids apart in eye surgery such as cataract surgery and in examination.
What are microsurgery instruments used for?
Microvascular surgery instruments serve the anastomosis of small arteries and veins — clamping, dilating the vessel ends and micro suturing — in reconstructive and plastic surgery, vascular surgery and replantation, and the fine tissue work of ophthalmic surgery. Microsurgery tools for a full tray are also sold as the micro surgical instruments set.
How BusinessMed microsurgical instruments are made
Each instrument is made of German stainless steel with a satin, non-reflective finish; the Barraquer needle holder is also made in titanium. They are reusable, autoclavable and covered by a 5-year warranty.
