Magill Forceps

BusinessMed® Magill Forceps are angled forceps that guide a tracheal tube into the larynx or a nasogastric tube into the esophagus, and remove foreign bodies from the upper airway. The angle keeps the hand out of the line of sight during laryngoscopy. The range comes in three sizes — adult, child and infant — on the pattern Sir Ivan Magill first described in 1920.

How to choose Magill forceps

  • Patient size. The length follows the patient: adult, child or infant. Searches for "McGill forceps", a "mcgill forcep" or "Magills forceps" mean the same instrument.
  • With the laryngoscope. Magill forceps are used together with a laryngoscope, which gives the view the angle keeps clear.

What are Magill forceps used for?

Nasotracheal intubation, guiding the tube tip into the larynx; placing a nasogastric tube into the esophagus; and removing foreign bodies from the mouth, pharynx and upper airway. Each magill forcep size is listed separately.
