Rongeurs
BusinessMed® Rongeurs are plier-type instruments with cup-shaped jaws that bite away bone. The range has double-action Leksell, Luer, Ruskin, Zaufal-Jansen, parallel-jaw and short patterns, and single-action Beyer rongeurs for alveolar and small-bone work. They remove and contour bone in orthopedic, spinal, neurosurgical, maxillofacial and oral surgery.
Types of bone rongeurs
Double-action rongeurs
Double-action (compound) joints use two linked pivots that multiply hand force. The Leksell rongeur has sideways-curved jaws for neurosurgery, spine and orthopedics; Luer, Ruskin and Zaufal-Jansen are curved double-action patterns; the parallel-jaw rongeur and the short 15 cm rongeur complete the group.
Single-action rongeurs
The Beyer rongeur is single-action with curved jaws, used for alveolar crest trimming after extraction and in hand and small-bone surgery.
How to choose a rongeur instrument
- Force. Double-action joints multiply hand force; single-action Beyer patterns suit delicate trimming.
- Jaw curve. Straight or parallel jaws for direct access; curved and strongly curved jaws to reach around a margin.
- Length. Short patterns for close work; longer rongeur forceps for deeper fields — each product page lists its length.
