Tofflemire Matrix Bands and Retainers

BusinessMed® Tofflemire Matrix Bands and Retainers — the dental matrix band and its retainer — form the missing proximal wall of a Class II cavity while the filling is placed. The retainer holds a metal matrix band in a loop around a premolar or molar; one knob locks the band ends in the slot and the other tightens the loop. The range covers adult universal, adult angled and child retainers and adult and junior bands.

Types of Tofflemire retainers

Matrix bands

Broad, narrow and universal band packs in adult and junior sizes, for example the universal matrix bands and the junior universal bands.

How to choose a Tofflemire matrix

  • Side of placement. Buccal placement everywhere → universal retainer; lingual placement as well → angled retainer.
  • Patient size. Primary teeth and small mouths → child retainer and junior bands.
  • Band pattern. Bands come broad, narrow and universal, in adult and junior sizes; each band pack names its pattern.
  • Retainer and bands together. A matrix band system needs both the retainer and the bands.

What is a matrix band dental use?

Class II amalgam and composite restorations on premolars and molars: the matrix retainer Tofflemire design holds the band around the tooth so the proximal filling can be placed and shaped, in adult and pediatric dentistry. Composite instruments for the filling are in Composite Instruments.
