Reflex Hammers

BusinessMed® Reflex Hammers are neurological examination instruments for testing deep tendon reflexes, such as the knee jerk, and for percussion. Each named pattern has its own head: the triangular rubber Taylor, the Queen Square with a pointed tip for the plantar reflex, the Babinski, and the Buck multi-tool. The range also includes a Wartenberg pinwheel for sensory testing and a neurological hammer set.

Types of reflex hammers

How to choose a reflex hammer

  • Head. A Taylor reflex hammer has one triangular head with two edges; the Queen Square a round head with a pointed tip; the Buck two rubber faces.
  • Extra tools. The Buck adds a needle and brush for sensory testing.
  • Handle. Fixed or telescoping (Babinski).

What are reflex hammers used for?

Testing deep tendon reflexes such as the patellar reflex and the plantar reflex in neurological examination, and chest percussion. The Queens Square reflex hammer and the Babinski hammer both serve plantar reflex testing.
