Serrated FUE Punch scores the perifollicular fibrous sheath and outer root sheath, the follicular unit dermis and subdermal adipose layer, and the infundibular portion of the hair follicle and sebaceous gland ostium at the donor safe zone (occipital and temporal scalp) during Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), Donor Graft Harvesting, and Hair Transplant Surgery, advancing to the depth of the follicular bulge region.

Serrated Circumferential Cutting Edge and Dissection Plane Control

The Serrated Circumferential Cutting Edge with Micro-Tooth Serrations grips the scalp dermis during motorized rotation, preventing lateral displacement of the punch on the curved scalp surface. Micro-tooth serrations initiate localized collagen remodeling with less tearing than a blunt punch and greater surface control than a sharp punch on a curved tissue plane. The Internal Beveled Bore for Atraumatic Follicle Dissection then maintains the dissection plane along the follicular unit without lateral compression as the Sharp Inner Bevel for Follicle Isolation advances to the follicular bulge region depth. Where surgeons require confirmation of full circumferential scoring before applying extraction force, the extraction readiness decision point is the mechanism by which punch efficiency and per-graft scoring time directly affect patient outcome.

Follicular Transection Risk and Punch Wound Outcome

Circular punch wounds of 0.7–1.3 mm heal by secondary intention; complete epithelialization occurs within 5–7 days, and sub-millimeter circular scars are clinically imperceptible at correct extraction densities. Follicular transection — partial or complete severing of the dermal papilla of the hair follicle or follicular bulge region during punch scoring — renders the graft non-viable. The accepted transection rate for experienced FUE surgeons is ≤5%; rates above 15% indicate technique error or punch mismatch.
